SIZING GUIDE
What does gauge mean?
The gauge of the jewellery refers to the thickness of the bar. The higher the gauge, the thinner the jewellery.
How do I know what gauge to get?
Traditionally, most butterfly back style earrings are a 20 gauge (seen as 20g), which is 0.8mm wide. Piercing guns will pierce with 18g 1mm earrings and almost all needle piercings in the ears & face are 16g which is 1.2mm thick.
It is important to know the gauge of your piercings as you don't want to purchase an item of jewellery which is a thicker gauge than what you were pierced with as you could struggle to get this in your piercing or it could be sore.
How do I know what length bar to get?
All flat back studs listed on my website are available in either 6mm or 8mm. Most fresh piercings have either an 8mm or 10mm length bar in and will need to be downsized to a shorter bar after 6-8 weeks once the risk of swelling has reduced.
If your piercing has healed on an angle then you will most likely have to keep a longer bar in and will not need to downsize - this is why aftercare for piercings is important.
Usually, all correctly healed piercings can eventually be downsized to a 6mm bar but every ear is individual. If you are local to me, I am happy for you to pop in for me to advise, if not pop into a local reputable piercer and I'm sure they will be able to help!
How do I know what size huggie to get?
Everyone's ears/noses/bodies are completely unique therefore the size huggie that will best suit them will be different. Generally, these are the sizes I would recommend. But again, pop in to see me or any reputable piercer and they will be able to offer some advice.
Lobes - 6mm/8mm/10mm
Helix - 6mm/8mm
Tragus - 6mm
Forward Helix - 6mm
Conch - 10mm/12mm
Daith - 8mm
Rook - 6mm
Nostril - 6mm/8mm
Septum - 8mm/10mm
Remember, I recommend waiting 12 weeks after your initial piercing before changing to a huggie. Some piercings need longer.
Why is my rook pierced with a curved bar?
Rook piercings are the only piercings I offer that need a curved bar due to the position in your ear. I personally use an 8mm curved bar for rook piercings and most rooks can then be downsized to a 6mm bar after 6-8 weeks. If you would like to wear a huggie in your rook piercing, please wait 12 weeks before changing.
When can I change my daith from a horseshoe to a huggie?
I pierce daiths with a horseshoe bar as I use a 10mm bar to account for swelling, after 6-12 weeks, we can then downsize this to an 8mm, or sometimes even 6mm, huggie. This means it can look more 'snug' to your anatomy and in my opinion just looks nicer.
